Long experience gives Klaus Laitenberger special knowledge of cultivating crops under shelter and of growing them to their best in efficient, organic ways. Greenhouse or polytunnel extend the seasons for many ‘ordinary’ vegetables, give reliable harvests of the tender and tricky ones, and offer room for exciting experiment with plants one may never have known. Yacon, stevia and pepino are a few exotic names that spice this rich roster of vegetables, but the advice for raising all of them, from aubergine to turnip, is a month-by-month companion rich in insight and detail. Of the many new books on growing your own food, this is the one I’ve been waiting for.” – Michael Viney.

Two great events for readers are taking place in Ennistymon this weekend.
The first is the Dylan Thomas Festival at the Falls Hotel in Ennistymon, once the home of Thomas’s wife Caitlin. The three-day festival, from May 18th to 20th, will feature lectures, recitals, a documentary screening and a history tour outlining Ennistymon’s connections to Thomas and other poets, including Brian Merriman.

The second is the Ennistymon Bookfair, taking place on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th May 10am-5.30pm

Booksellers will be in the Courthouse Gallery and taking over empty shop units on Main street.
We won’t be trading there this year, but our friends at Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop, Dublin Book Browsers, Tall Stories, Banner Books, Jim O’ Toole, Geata Buidhe Books & Salmon Poetry Publishers will be. There will be books for all tastes from childrens books to the rarest antiquarian books and plenty of local interest items.
Booksellers are also willing to provide valuations for rare books on the day.
So if you love books, be sure to drop in!
